Gardening Activity

We had a church group in for a planting activity, and it was a great success! Armed with a pot from home, flowers from our nursery, some instruction from our plant pro, and lots of creativity, some beautiful arrangements were born.

Thanks for coming, we look forward to next year!

To the anonymous comment about not liking the volume of our TV commercial: We're sorry, we don't control the volume of the TV broadcast. Any discrepancy between their normal broadcast volume and the volume they play ads is strictly in the station's control, and beyond ours.

Question

Thanks to another blog reader who asked about planting hydrangeas in full or partial sun.

Hydrangeas don't do well in full sun, so they would not be a good choice for the area that receives full sun. For the area with partial sun, go outside during the hottest part of the day (12-4pm) during the hottest month (August) and stand in the area where you would like to plant. If you are uncomfortable, the hydrangeas will be too. If there is an area where you can plant hydrangeas in your yard, they will need organic matter to be successful. Come in to our store for a free handout with instructions. We have a wide selection of water-wise sun shrubs, and sun-loving annuals and perrenials that would do well in your yard. Come in to browse our selection, and even talk with our garden consultant!

Question

Thanks to our blog reader who asked:

Will you have any Ash trees this year and when will the new trees arrive?

Our West Valley and Downtown locations just received tree shipments last week, including Ash trees. Our Sandy store will be receiving trees within the next few days.

Spring is almost here!

Spring is officially here on Thursday (March 20th), so this may be the last snow storm of the season. Several more inches of snow fell after this picture was taken. March has come in like a lion this year, so maybe it will cooperate and go out like a lamb. We'll keep our fingers crossed for good gardening weather.

Roses and berries are here (not to mention grapes, asparagus and rhubarb!), so come in soon for the best selection.

Flowers

From Becky: We have had some great flowers this year in our flower beds. We loved everything we planted, but these are some of our favorites.

The last daisy of the summer

The blanket flowers are amazing, they have been blooming for over a month

The stargazer lily is such a beautiful flower!

We had several varieties of rudbeckias, and we loved them all. They have gorgeous flowers that won many compliments from our neighbors.

Yard Project

From Mike in Sandy: We had a huge job ahead of us when we moved into our home. The front yard was junipers and an asphalt turnaround driveway. Several years and a lot of hard work later, it's looking great. We can now enjoy being in our front yard!

Sandy Remodel

Our Sandy reconstruction project is really coming along. This is our original facility just before demolition.

Completion is set for November of this year!

Remember, the Garden Center is still open during remodeling. You can shop 10-6 Monday thru Saturday, the entrance is just south of the new building.
